Aliso Boys Opens 2023-24 Season On A Winning Note

By Simpson/Bukoski/Kishida 11/30/2023, 7:15am PST

The Aliso Boys Soccer team began their 2023-24 campaign on the positive side as the Varsity and Frosh-Soph teams scored convincing wins while the JV squad came from behind to secure a draw.

The Varsity squad extended their winning streak over Dana Hills as Chase Seager and Gavyn Nobles tallied the goals for the Wolverines.  After the opening of the game saw Aliso defending for much of the first ten minutes, the game settled to Aliso's style.  With 13 minutes left in the first half, Seager scored on a header after a cross from Nico Nguyen.  There would be no more scoring in the half and Aliso took a 1-0 lead into the break.  The second half was controlled by Aliso as well and midway through the half, Jason Starcks hit a solid free kick that bounced off the goalie and had Nobles waiting at the door step to put in the back of the net.  The game would end, 2-0, in favor of Aliso.

In the Frosh-Soph opener, Aliso scored three first half goals and added two in the second frame to win 5-1.  Sean Bruner kicked off the scoring six minutes in on a free kick.  Asher Youdrian followed with a header off a cross by Bruner.  Raif Raslan added the third goal of the half.  In the second half, Jacob Powell scored a pair of goals, one at the 15-minute mark and another with three minutes left, converting a a penalty kick.

The start of the JV game found Aliso with some scoring opportunities early, but they fell behind 0-1 on a goal by Dana Hills midway through the first half. The visiting team doubled their lead just before the half by converting a penalty kick to make it 0-2.
Aliso came out determined in the second half. Just minutes into the period, Noe Sanchez set up Harry Arnold who dribbled past the keeper and found the back of the net to put Aliso on the board. Less than 10 minutes later, Jael Flores had the goal of the game with a rocket from outside the box to even the score at 2-2. Aliso continued with a flurry of shots, including two that hit the post, but ultimately the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
